Winter Sport-Christmas 1887
During the past fortnight some capitol skating has been afforded to lovers of this pastime, on the flooded meadows near the scotwater bridge at Norton Disney. On Christmas day a very large number of skaters, from Bassingham, Carlton-le-Morland and other villages, disported themselves, as the ice here was in much better condition than in other places along the river (Whitham) side. Several games of hockey gave a variety to the sport, and afforded much amusement to spectators. Since the fall of snow and partial thaw the ice has not been so attractive.
