NORTON DISNEY may only be a small Lincolnshire hamlet but it has connections with some of the most famous cartoon characters in the world.
The connection is all in a name: Walt Disney, creator of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy. Walt visited the village in 1949 in an attempt to trace his ancestry.
His attempt was not entirely fruitless and he discovered that the name Disney came to this country with the Normans.
Noblemen from the township of D'Isigny in Normandy settled in the area and over the years the only thing that has changed is the spelling.
Walt visited the village with his wife and two daughters and as well as chatting to the locals, he managed to fit in a game of darts at the St Vincent Arms.
He Called in St Peter's Church and studied 500 year old church registers signed by those believed to be his ancestors, the landed gentry, squires and sheriffs who lived in Norton Disney.
Walt and his family left convinced they were descended from the original D'Isigny of Norton Disney.
