NORTON DISNEY A Defaulting man servant Feb 10th. 1892
At the Kesteven Petty Sessions, at Lincoln, on Friday, Robert Harlow, Farm Servant, was summoned for absconding from the service of Henry Tustin, farmer, Norton Disney. The plaintiff said he engaged the defendant on the 9th. Of January last, bargaining to give him £4 10s, up to May Day. He came on the 11th and left again on the 21st. He went away during the night some time, a witness finding he had gone when he got up in the morning. Defendant never told witness he was going, and there had been no words between them. Witness engaged another man in defendants place, and had paid him 2s. 6d. a day for eight days. Witness also claimed £2 in consequence of having a pair of horses standing idle. The Chairman:- You cannot claim for that. The defendant could not work five pair of horses.- Defendant said he ran away because the labouring man took his chaff. He told the man to tell the plaintiff, but he refused, saying he was his (defendant's) master. He left the shilling he received as "fasten" penny on the table. He did not want to go back to the plaintiff, having another place to go to. The chairman (Mr. G. E. Jarvis), said the contract would be dissolved, and the defendant would have to pay £1 for the man, 5s. for the horse being standing idle, and 9s. 6d. costs. The defendant seemed to think he could take a job and give it up when he liked, but if he came there they would show him that he could not.
