Jervis greets Nelson

February the 14th. 1797 saw  the Royal Navy win a great victory at the battle of Cape St. Vincent.

In 1897, to commemorate the 100 th. anniversary of the battle, 100 Horse Chestnut (conker) trees were planted  on the roadside from the church to the Hall, by Carnegie Robert Parker-Jervis J.P. 1855 - 1908, the 5th. Viscount St. Vincent.

Many of the Trees, now over 100 years old,  still remain and put on a fine show of Blossom in the spring.
